J.M INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, DWARKA jubilantly celebrated Anveshan and Environment Week, from 17th April to 21st April, 2023. Students were encouraged to delve deeper into the realms of Science through discoveries, inventions and innovations by doing hands-on-activities and also inspired to nurture nature.
Under the guidance and motivation of school Principal Dr Amita Saxena, various activities were conducted during the entire week.
1. Quiz competition was conducted on 17th April 2023, from Grades VIII to XI on the theme-Conserve Environment. This Quiz competition activity developed understanding among students to conserve Mother Nature and enhance reasoning and analytical skills. The winners were awarded with the excellence award.
2. Seed ball drive- A demonstration to make seed balls was given by the Science teachers and the significance of making seed balls was also shared with students. Prior to one week of seed ball drive, seed balls were made by Grades VI and VII students and left to dry. Students enthusiastically participated in the seed ball drive conducted on 17th April. Beginning with the activity, the seeds were given proper treatment. Fertilisers and fungicides were mixed well to ensure that the seeds remain viable.
Dr Saxena, along with Science teachers interacted with the students, encouraged and appreciated their active participation to make the environment green and flagged off the drive. Students dispersed their seed balls randomly in neighbourhood parks and free area to increase the green cover.
3. Poster making: Poster making competition was held on 18th April, 2023 from Grades V- to VIII, Themes allotted were Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Alternative Sources of Energy, Waste Management and Sustainable Development goals. Best poster making winners were awarded with excellence certificates.
4. PowerPoint presentation- Grades IX and XI students were divided into teams and presented PPTs on the topic- Contribution of Eminent Environmentalists to conserve nature. Science teachers evaluated the presentations on the basis of content, creativity, usage of power point tools and relevance with the topic and presentation skills. Students shared insightful information during the presentation and not just improved their presentation and computer skills but had great learning too.
5. Compost pit preparation- Students collected peels of vegetables and fruits and brought it to school. School gardener helped to collect all of it and put them in a pit. Students showed curiosity to prepare compost and use it for the growth of the plants and also for the enrichment of the soil. They have been following the changes to check whether compost is ready. Once ready, it will be used in the school garden as per the plan.
6. Fun with experiments- The Anveshan and Environment week culminated with the Science Experiment Display from Grades V- XI. Students were filled with enthusiasm to demonstrate their experiment. The event gave a platform to the students to use their scientific knowledge and temperament and bring forth interesting experiments. It also allowed students to work together in groups and learn from each other. They shared their ideas and collectively galvanized their energies and came up with fantastic display.
